The Environment Authority has issued Decision No. 15/2021 to regulate the export of waste.

The second article states: It is prohibited to export all types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste from the Sultanate without obtaining a license from the Authority.

Article 3: Export duties per ton of expired lead acid batteries, spent lithium and cadmium batteries, and lead metals derived from them, occupied as alloys, wires, or the like will cost OMR 100.

The second article states: It is prohibited to export all types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste from the Sultanate without obtaining a license from the Authority.

Article 3: Export duties per ton of expired lead acid batteries, spent lithium and cadmium batteries, and lead metals derived from them, occupied as alloys, wires, or the like will cost OMR 100.

 – The export duty for 200 liters per barrel of expired mineral oils, such as motor oils, equipment, electrical transformers and the like, is OMR 10 

– Export duties for ton of used cooking oils amounted to OMR 150 

– OMR 35 for the export of a ton of waste of electronic devices and their derivatives, including metals, circuit boards, wires and the like.


 – For ton of iron scrap of all kinds, whether ingots, wires and the like, the export duties amounts to OMR 35. 


– Export duties for ton of scrap aluminum of all kinds and scrap copper, tin, zinc and the like, whether ingots, wires and the like: OMR 35 


– Export duties for ton of waste paper and cardboard of all kinds are OMR 20 


– OMR 10 to export per ton of all kinds of plastic waste


 – The fees for exporting other waste will be determined by a decision of the authority after coordination with the concerned authorities


Article 4: It is prohibited to mix more than one type of waste in the container or the same shipment


Article 5: Waste that has no facilities for its treatment and recycling in the Sultanate shall be exempted from export licensing fees in coordination with the competent authorities.


Article 6: In the event that an export license is required for waste that can be utilised or used in the Sultanate, priority is given to the local market.


Article 7: The companies and shops that produce and deal with hazardous and non-hazardous waste must keep a record that includes the produced waste indicating in it what was sold of that waste, as well as what was disposed of and the methods for that, and the record must be shown to the authority or the competent authorities upon request.


Article 8: Anyone who violates the provisions of these regulations shall be punished with an administrative fine of not less than OMR 500  and not more than OMR 2,000 , and it is doubled in the case of repeated violation.
